Dauber said he was disappointed he couldn’t hit the 21-foot mark, but said he’s only a sophomore and this would serve as a good learning experience for him.

Ryan Miller of North Linn won the event with a 22-foot 3.75-inch jump.

Levi Geyer 3200 meter run

Geyer said he had two goals heading into the Class 1A 3200 meter run finals: don’t get lapped and finish higher than his seed of 11th.

He accomplished both of those despite Gable Sieperda setting a Class 1A record at 9:09.60. He also finished one place higher than his seed at 10th. Geyer ran a personal best 10:14.54 on the day.

Geyer said now he’s headed back to Kalona for the Iowa Mennonite soccer team’s senior night. He’ll also run in the 1600 meter run on Saturday.

Suzanna Yoder 100 and 400 meter dash

Suzanna Yoder took 10th place in the 400 meter dash with a new personal best of 1:01.30. The Iowa Mennonite junior also ran in the 100 meter dash on Thursday, running a time of 13.39, which was good for 18th in the preliminaries.

Lone Tree 4x800 meter relay

Mid-Prairie girls 4x800 meter relay

The Mid-Prairie girls 4x800 got off to a strong start in the first of two heats with a good first leg by Kate Cavanagh. She was followed up by Kessa Jones, Moriah Brase and Ana Fleming. Fleming had a nice close out to place Mid-Prairie seventh in the heat and 18th overall.

Mid-Prairie boys 4x800 meter relay

The Mid-Prairie boys 4x800 took the runner-up spot with a time of 8:06.30. The relay of Zach Pettit, Marshal Teets, Quinn Schmidt and Cary Schaefer nearly caught Pekin on the last leg, but the Panthers were able to pull away.

The group earned eight team points for the Golden Hawks.

Schaefer and Schmidt 400 meter dash

Mid-Prairie had two entries into the Class 2A boys 400 meter dash. Cary Schaefer took 14th place with a time of 51.20 and Quinn Schmidt finished 21 with a time of 52.74. Schmidt’s time was his fastest this season.

Shalla’s shot

Casey Shalla placed 18th in the Class 1A shot put with a throw of 45-feet 1.5-inches. Shalla threw that on his first throw and scratched on the other two. Shalla performed five spots better than his seed coming into the event.
