November 26

Numerous reports of vehicles in ditch or stuck in snow.

Arrested Josie Breanne Slaubaugh, 25, of Wellman, for domestic abuse assault, 1st offense. No bond and a Johnson County warrant for probation violation, probation revocation on the original charge of theft 3rd. No bond. Warrant and no contact order served.

Caller in the 1900 block of 135th Street, Wellman, smells LP gas from the basement. Everyone is out of the home. Caller called back advising they took care of the situation and the Fire Department can disregard.

November 27

Caller reports a female subject left the trailer with two kids, but there are two other small children inside. Responded. 10-year old was inside the trailer. Contact was made with the mother. No issue.

Caller in Wellman requests a welfare check on a neighbor. Responded. Unable to make contact at the residence. A message was left with the male resident.

Two-vehicle accident in the 1300 block of Highway 1, Kalona. No injuries. Accident happened on the driveway of the business. Information was exchanged between drivers. Austin Michael Boos of Washington versus Emily Ann Ross of Kalona. Boos was cited for no proof of insurance.

Report a vehicle is parked in a no parking spot at the fire hall. Citation issued for parking in front of the no parking sign.

Officer reports being out a residence checking on a wanted subject in Wellman. Arrested Sandra Darlene Hahn, 55, of Wellman for driving while license denied or revoked, possession of controlled substance, marijuana, 1st offense and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond $1,300, cash only.

November 28

Caller reports a one-vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 1 and 190th Street. Vehicle is in the ditch, driver is not responsive. Kalona Fire, Kalona QRS, Washington Fire and Rescue 92A responded. One subject transported to hospital.

Report of a truck in an embankment at Dogwood and Highway 22.

Report of a vehicle in the ditch south of Forest hill road on Ginkgo Avenue, Wellman.

Report of several vehicles in Kalona that have not moved since the snowfall and are plowed in. Requesting assistance from a deputy. Responded. Several vehicles were moved, others were left messages or were told by the deputy to move their vehicle.

Caller in Riverside reports they received two counterfeit bills.

Caller in Riverside reports vehicle that needs to be moved for snow removal. Will attempt to contact owner.

Caller in the 1100 block of Enterprise Drive, Riverside, reports a counterfeit bill.

Vehicle stop on Highway 218. Arrested John Wiliam Shaffer, 55, of Cedar Rapids for a Linn County warrant mittimus for failure to appear and serve time on original charge, driving while license under suspension. No bond, must serve four days and 23 hours. Transported subject to North Liberty and transferred custody to Linn County. Female driver was cited for speed 75 in a 65.

Deputy reports hitting a deer in his patrol vehicle.

November 29

Caller in the 1200 block of Poplar Blvd., Kalona, reports spray paint on their shed and someone also drove onto the bridge. Documentation.

Vehicle stop at Elm Avenue and Highway 22, Wellman. Arrested Richard Dean Jones, 64, of Richland for possession of controlled substance marijuana 2nd offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, defective muffler and failure to display registration sticker. Charges are pending for operating while intoxicated pending DCI results.

Caller reports hitting a deer near the Mid-Prairie highs school. Nobody is injured and the vehicle is drivable. A Wellman fireman removed the deer from the roadway. Another vehicle also hit the deer.

November 30

Issued parking violations in the 400 block of B Avenue, Kalona. Written warnings to both vehicles for after hours parking violations.

Caller in the 1100 block of Dogwood Avenue, Wellman, report there was a snowmobile driving by her residence and she saw someone shining a light around east of her house. Responded and was unable to locate the snowmobile.

Caller reports her bus driver reported there is a semi that slid off the roadway and is blocking the roadway. No injuries. Responded. The semi was loaded with pigs. They have another semi coming to help unload the pigs. Documentation.

Caller in the 1000 block of Second Street, Wellman, reports her son is out of control and refusing to go to school. Responded. Mother transported her son to the hospital.

Two-vehicle accident in front of Casey’s in Wellman. Vehicles have moved to the parking log. Occurred in the Casey’s parking lot. Driver’s information exchanged. This was a backing accident.

Reported to Lt. Tinnes that a subject who owns a pet turkey and a peacock have been running loose in the Wellman city limits, causing damage to property. Requesting a deputy make contact with the owner. Officer responded. Made contact with the possible owner who claims he does not own the turkey or peacock any longer. Original complainant has not seen it for several days. Documentation.

Caller in the 500 block of 11th Street, Kalona, reports the neighbor’s dog has been barking all day. Their window is open in that apartment and he can hear it. Responded. Report to be filed. Dog was barking upon deputy’s arrival.

Caller reports they were rear ended by another vehicle in the 700 block of First Street, Kalona. Operators Caleb Miller of Kalona versus Laverta Butterbaugh of Kalona.

Caller reports traffic accident at Mid-Prairie High School. Damage to truck. Caller will call back with other party’s information.

Reports of a wanted subject turning themselves in. Arrested Anthony Dean Campbell, 19, of Wellman. For criminal mischief 1st degree. Bond $5,00 cash only.

Caller in the 200 block of 10th Avenue, Wellman, reports a friend hit two of their vehicles then drove away. Officer responded. The accident may have happened on private property. The vehicle owners are going to talk to the subject that struck the vehicles to see about paying for the damages privately. A state accident report will be filed with citations pending. Deputies located multiple mailboxes that were struck near the intersection of 10th Avenue and Second Street in Wellman. Report to be filed.

Caller reports locating a vehicle in a ditch north of their residence in the 1300 block of Elm Avenue. Citations issued to Brian Richard Lewis of Keota for failure to maintain control, reckless driving and no proof of insurance.

December 1

Caller reports two alarms coming from the wrestling room. Wellman Fire and Rescue responded along with a key holder. No fire or smoke. Alarm was reset.

Caller in the 1400 block of Windham Hill Drive, Riverside, reports his vehicle was possibly vandalized over night. Rear window was broken out. Documentation for insurance. No suspects.

Caller reports a buggy was hit by a car on Highway 1 and 560th Street SW. The driver is inured and the horse is down. Kalona QRS and Kalona Fire responded to assist Johnson County.

Caller requests a welfare check on a female who has been walking on 120th Street all day. Transported her to a residence in Wellman.

Caller reports he lost control of his vehicle at 175th Street and Vine Avenue, Riverside. It is in the ditch, no injuries.

December 2

Caller reports a single vehicle rollover with no injuries. Officer responded and requested medical to check an occupant of the vehicle. Wellman QRS, Wellman Fire responded. Transported one subject to hospital.

Caller in the 200 block of Fifth Street, Kalona, reports vandalism to the dumpster in the alley.

Caller reports two children, female, 5, and male, 11, have been sitting in their parents vehicle in the casino parking lot while the parents are inside gambling for over an hour. They just went inside to warm up. This is possibly an ongoing issue. Spoke with caller, parents and children. DCI will review how long kids were left alone. DHS to be contacted.

Caller reports he rolled his car in the county and is inured. Vehicle is on its top. Single occupant and no trap. Kalona QRS, Kalona Rescue responded. State patrol will hand the accident report. One transported.

Caller reports they have an intoxicated subject at the main entrance of the casino. Request a deputy. Spoke with the subject who was drinking at the casino. They will wait till midnight to see if his card will reactivate to either get a room or a cab.
