ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Thanks for the Food Pantry aid

To the editor:

The Kalona Food Pantry very much appreciates the generosity of those who work at the Pantry and/or make food or monetary donations to help the people who reside in the Mid-Prairie Community School District. In 2016 you helped provide for those who come to the Pantry because they in need of food.

We are amazed at the help we receive from organizations, businesses, individuals, clubs, churches, schools and other groups. We appreciate those who donated special gifts such as meat vouchers and bring the bread from Panera. The monetary donations help with purchasing needed food or other items that were not donated and to provide vouchers for clients. Every penny goes to help someone in need, except for food and voucher expense, and once in a while, printed cards, receipts, etc.

The United Christian and Baptist Church houses the Kalona Food Pantry and takes care of the heat, lights and air conditioning. So, thanks again for any donation, small or large. A special thanks to JW’s for letting the clients use their vouchers there, and for your help through the year.

We can make adjustments for you to receive your food if you are handicapped and unable to come personally to the pantry on second and fourth Saturday mornings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. If weather is bad, listen to KCII or call 319-656-2626 after 9:30 a.m. to see if the pantry is open.

If you need help, please call 319-656-2626 for information. You must live in the Mid-Prairie Community School District and provide proof of your street address with a current bill or lease, which you should bring each time you come.

If you are bringing food, please call 319-656-5285 or 319-656-2535, several hours or the day before to set up a delivery time. Do not just leave food outside the church. Make sure the food is within expiration dates and that it is clean and unopened.

Send monetary donations to:
