A brutal course and a hot, sunny day didn’t do the field at Knoll Ridge Country Club any favors. Runners Iowa Mennonite, Lone Tree and Highland stepped up to the challenge and took on the course.

Starting with a steep downhill and featuring rolling hills throughout the course, all but one area runner had their slowest time this season. For example, the five scoring runners for the Iowa Mennonite girls ran 2:12 slower than their last meet at a muddy, wet Fairfield course.

The Iowa Mennonite girls squad finished fourth of seven teams in attendance and were led by freshman Leah Bontrager. Bontrager finished 11th overall with a time of 24:47 and marks her third time this season leading the Iowa Mennonite runners.

The Iowa Mennonite boys were led by Brian Nchoe, who finished in 11th place at 19:52. Noah Miller and Jacob Boller then came in close together at 21:00 and 21:16. The Iowa Mennonite boys finished fourth of nine boys teams in attendance.

The Lone Tree girls team only had three runners, but they have continued to roll in the top 10 finishes. Macie Bopp finished seventh at 23:56 and Natalie Patterson earned a medal at 10th place and 24:42. Maddie Jacque came in at 42nd with a 30:16.

The Lone Tree boys were fifth of nine teams and were led by Alberto Cortes who was 20th with a time of 20:52. Cale Christofferson was nine spots behind him in 29th at a time of 21:35.

The Highland girls only had four runners, with Madison Thomann leading the pack of Huskies at 26:16 and 19th place. Taylor Sublette, Fiona Mahler and Alli Brand all finished close together by taking 28th, 30th and 31st.

The Highland boys finished ninth as Jacob Roling finished 54th with a time of 23:27.

Iowa Mennonite ran on Tuesday at Center Point-Urbana, Lone Tree ran Tuesday at Mount Pleasant. Highland and Lone Tree are in action on Saturday at Pekin High School.
