ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

TIPTON - The Mid-Prairie eighth grade football team kept the Tipton Tigers off of the scoreboard for nearly three full quarters, but couldn’t find the end-zone in a 12-0 loss on Tuesday in Tipton.

Vinnie Bowlin led the Mid-Prairie defense with seven tackles.

“Our defense seemed to step up when we needed it to,” Coach Dylan Walther said. “Tipton’s defense played very well, so we relied on the guys on the defensive side to keep us in the ballgame.”

The Tigers took a 6-0 lead on the final play of the third quarter on a 26-yard touchdown run. Mid-Prairie looked to answer, moving the ball inside the 15-yard line on rushed from Bowlin and Eli Ours. Kayden Reinier rushed the ball inside the five. On third down, Ours rolled to his right, eluded a tackler and threw the ball with two defenders on his back. The pass intended for tight end Aaron Hershberger was intercepted, ending the threat.

A bad snap near mid-field gave the Golden Hawks a chance to get the ball back, but the Tigers’ quarterback barely beat defensive end Aidan Rath to the ball and Tipton went on to score.

The Golden Hawks also had a chance to get on the scoreboard just before the half, moving inside the Tipton 35 yard line. Ours had a pass tipped and intercepted to end the drive.

Ours also picked off a pass for the Golden Hawk defense and defensive tackle Josh Wallington and defensive end Ben Meader each added five tackles apiece.

Reinier made a big tackle on the opening kickoff with a touchdown-saving tackle at the Mid-Praiire 30 yard line, leading to a Tipton punt on the Tigers’ first possession.
