The Iowa Mennonite softball season came to an end on Monday night, losing to BGM 12-0 in the first round of the Class 1A postseason.
The game went four innings before the run-rule, with BGM scoring 12 runs on 10 hits during the game.
Iowa Mennonite had three hits in the loss, with Suzanna Yoder singling twice and Mia Graber getting one hit.
The Iowa Mennonite squad put two on base in the first inning, but BGM pitcher Kelsey Lint was able to find a pair of strikeouts after Yoder and Graber got on base.
Then in the bottom half of the inning, two quick outs put Iowa Mennonite in a good position to get out of the inning scoreless. An error though with two outs kept the inning alive and allowed the next four batters to reach and three runs to score.
IMS had two more base runners the rest of the game as Esther Hughes reached on an error and was stranded at third and Yoder with her second single in the second inning of play.
BGM finished the game in the bottom of the fourth with zero outs, three hits, an error and a walk later BGM reached 12-0 and the game was finished.
Iowa Mennonite finishes their season at 3-20. They swept Mediapolis in a conference doubleheader and beat Columbus on senior night. Suzanna Yoder led the team at the plate, going 22-59 on the season for an average of .373. She hit three doubles, two triples and three home runs with a team-high 11 RBIs.
Rubye Ney was the other IMS player over .300 for the season at a .345 batting average. She drove in 10 runs on 20 hits.
Mia Graber had a team-high seven doubles and drove in 13 runs.
Ney caught 15 people stealing this year as catcher.
Leah Bontrager made 21 starts for IMS this year, going 3-19 with an ERA of 8.15. She tallied 66 strikeouts on the year.
Only 58 percent of runs allowed by IMS opponents were earned this year, with 79 errors on 547 opportunities. Rubye Ney, Mia Graber and Suzanna Yoder all had fielding percentages over 90 percent.
