ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Noting that one county’s loss is another’s gain, the Washington County supervisors Tuesday agreed to end the 28E Agreement with Keokuk County providing for a shared assistant county attorney.

By mutual agreement between the two counties, the agreement will be terminated effective Jan. 2. The reason? Assistant County Attorney Chancey Moulding was elected Jefferson County Attorney Nov. 6.

“We will miss him,” said Washington County Attorney John Gish, noting that the shared agreement began three years ago and “worked well.”

At the same time, Gish praised Moulding’s work and told the county his office will seek a replacement, that two assistant attorneys are needed.

Gish added that there likely would be another sharing agreement with Keokuk later, but that the individual “would be a Washington County employee,” whose services would be contracted.
