Freshmen led the way for the Lone Tree girls cross country team at the IMS Early Bird on Tuesday, August 30 at Iowa Mennonite School.

Macie Bopp took 12th place overall with a time of 23:34.37 and Natalie Patterson finished 14th with a time of 23:59.96. The top 15 finishers included six runners from 4A City High, two from 4A CR Jefferson, two from 3A Washington, three from 2A North Cedar and two from 1A Lone Tree.

Emily Feldman finished 19th out of the 66 competitors with a time of 24:30.96 and Sydney Alt was 22nd with a time of 24:48.68. City High, Washington and Lone Tree were the only teams with four runners in the top 25.

The soft ground turned to mud during the varsity races as 337 runners ran the course in the four races over two hours, concerning some of the younger runners.

Jeff Hudson finished 71st in the boys varsity race with a time of 25:27.74.

Iowa City High took first place in both varsity races with the top four runners in both the boys and girls varsity 5K races. Michael Berg won the boys race with a time of 17:15.44 and Kinsee Brands took the girls competition with a time of 20:57.96. Iowa City High also had the top 35 times in the boys JV race with times ranging from 18:28.02 to 22:10.27.
