ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Trump would upset status quo of ruling elite

To the editor:

A few of us have been having roundtable discussions for several weeks, trying to understand this election season. We have reached the conclusion that we ought to do what we can to promote massive voter turnout in November. We fear that in the past, too many have thought it not worth their while to become engaged in politics, or see their choice reduced to “the lesser of 2 evils”. Following that logic, it implies that there was a ‘perfect’ choice that could be had, and by not showing up to vote, the next step in that logical train suggests we may allow this election to go to the “worst of 2 evils”. The last 2 elections are viewed that way by some.

In truth, especially in this presidential election race, the next United States President will be either long-time politician Hillary Clinton, or billionaire businessman Donald Trump.

Someone a long time ago advised us that we should obey civil rulers – but no one has the ‘right’ to rule over another – the right to rule exists only so long as it is by consent of the governed. We give our consent by VOTING in free and open elections - a privilege we should cherish.

We find it obvious that it is the rule of law and tolerance that sets our Republic apart from a democracy that puts government – and the whims of the men in power – at the head of the power structure. But like everything else in life, we each have to do our part – and in this case, our part is to become educated on the issues and to thoughtfully cast ballots supporting those that will become our government. If we don’t get a government that is moral and just, then either the moral and upright are in the minority, or a large number of the moral and upright didn’t participate.

Now more than ever, we need to get beyond the sensational headlines that constantly bombard us in the mainstream media about the candidates and their personal character traits – neither are perfect candidates. We must concentrate on the issues that will affect us, our children and our grandchildren for years to come. We cannot sit this one out. We must work against the worst of the choices we face.

We cannot allow the progressive liberals among us to continue to place judges in positions of power that think they know better than our founders, and can make better law than We The People. An activist liberal Federal judge and law school lecturer recently wrote that there is no way anything written in the 1700’s is relevant today. If we allow activist, liberal Supreme Court Justices to dominate, then all of our unalienable rights – existing before the Constitution was drafted – will soon be bent, twisted, mutilated and in the end taken from us. Our Constitution would be declared obsolete and our rights would be eroded until we are controlled in every aspect of our lives and thoughts by a government that assumes to know better than we how to live our lives.

The progressive liberals seek to so weaken our Constitutional Rights that we’ll be under the tyranny of the government rather than a nation ruled by the consent of We the People. It is most certainly true of those currently supporting the Democrats and the liberal, progressive agenda.

At best, Clinton in the Oval Office will continue her ways – crony corruption, ever more big government, weakened military, open borders & amnesty, increasing taxes and government intrusion, infringing on free speech, religious rights, and our right to bear arms.

Republicans – as a party – stand for none of that, and instead also support school choice, a strong military, market based solutions to health care, Supreme Court Justices that believe in the Constitution and limiting government overreach.

At worst a Trump presidency could initially be painful, messy, and unpolished. But it will upset the status quo of the ruling elite and return the focus of the nation to what is best for We The People.
