April 27, 2017 Lone Tree Track competes at Winfield-Mount Union, Belle Plaine

Jovonte Squiers won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, six and a half inches as the Lone Tree boys finished third at the eight-team Winfield-Mount Union Invitational on Thursday, April 20.

West Burlington/Notre Dame finished first with 150 points, followed by Cardinal with 94 and the Lions with 71.

Emily Feldman finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump for the Lady Lions, who finished fifth with 67 points. West Burlington/Notre Dame also won the girls division with 126 points.

Senior Drake Hotz, who had not run a 400-meter dash since his sophomore season, earned a first-place finish with the Lions’ best time of the season, 54.28.

The 4x800 meter relay of Sydney Alt, Natalie Patterson, Karli Burr, and Macie Bopp won its race with a time of 11:24.31.

Lions travel to Belle Plaine

Casey Shalla won the shot put and finished second in the discus as the Lone Tree boys finished third out of eight teams in Belle Plaine on Monday, April 24. Lisbon won both the boys’ and girls’ titles with 192 and 129 points, respectively. The Lady Lions finished sixth with 42 points.

Jovonte Squiers surpassed his best long jump of the season by a quarter of an inch to become the sole owner of the top jump in class 1A for the first time this season. Niko Gosnell won the high jump with a 6-04 effort, while Keegan Edwards finished third. Drake Hotz finished third in the 200 meter dash. The Lions ran a new season-low time in the 4x200 mete relay. Avery Knock, Squiers, Brock Smith and Hotz completed the race in 1:37.66.

Smith also set a new season low with a time of 2:06.91 in the 800-meter run.

Emily Feldman led the Lady Lions with a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles. Macie Bopp finished third in the 1500 meter run with a new career low time of 5:47.51. Natalie Patterson also had a personal record in the 800 meter run with a sixth place finish of 2:50.02. Kaycee Kane finished fourth in the discus and Morgan Hotz led Lone Tree in the shot put with her best throw of the season, a fourth place finish of 28-08.
