Down 48-46 in the waning seconds of a non-conference game against Keota, Suzanna Yoder threw up a 3-point shot. A whistle blew as the buzzer sounded and Yoder went to the free-throw line and sunk all three shots to give Iowa Mennonite a 49-48 win over the Eagles.
The three free throws gave Iowa Mennonite the lead back after Keota went on a 14-7 run in the final quarter to take the lead. Iowa Mennonite had a 32-28 lead at halftime and a 39-34 lead headed into the final quarter.
Yoder led Iowa Mennonite with 24 points on 7-23 shooting. Yoder was a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. Yani Gutierrez turned in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for Iowa Mennonite. Rubye Ney added four points and six rebounds.
Keota was led by Addison Sprouse, who had 17 points on 3-7 shooting. She scored the majority of her points from the free-throw line, going 9-11 on the night.
Iowa Mennonite outrebounded the Eagles 29-24 on the night, but Keota was able to get second-chance points on their seven offensive boards.
After a brief Thanksgiving break, Iowa Mennonite took on Lone Tree on Tuesday night at home. They travel to Letts, Iowa, to take on Louisa-Muscatine in their first road contest in conference play.
