ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

There was a well-attended party at Pioneer Park on Friday in honor of Chris Wolf, the Park’s administrator since 2012. She is retiring after 50 years in the business.

There was much laughter and hugs, cupcakes all around, and black and gold coffee mugs for everybody.

Wolf told the people gathered that working for Continuum Health Care Services, the Ryan-based company that owns and runs Pioneer Park, was “a breath of fresh air.”

Brenda Mortenson, who works for Continuum and lives in Ryan, spoke for many attending.

“Chris,” she said, “is awesome. We hate to see her go. She was a joy to work with.”

Wolf began her career in elder care back in 1968 as a certified nursing assistant. She went from there to activities director and then 32 years as an administrator.

Before coming to Lone Tree, she worked in Iowa Falls. She’s originally from Byard, population 600.

Her plans for the future include consulting for Continuum Health Care Services, traveling, working on crafts, playing guitar and using the fishing pole she was given as a parting gift.

During her tenure at Pioneer Village, the buildings, the oldest wing dates back to 1973, were improved and modernized, and, in 2014, the State of Iowa determined that the Village was “deficiency free.” Upon inspection it received a perfect score.

Wolf is currently helping her replacement, Emily Bryant, through the transition period.
