ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

This year’s elections brought out a pair of local political newcomers to local legislative races.

While both Heather Hora and Kimberly Davis lost in the general election to entrenched incumbents, they both came out with positive reflections from their campaigns.

Hora, a Republican, ran against State Sen. Kevin Kinney (D-Oxford) in the Iowa Senate District 39 race. Kinney took 54.5 percent of the vote, while Hora garnered 45.5 percent.

“I had an amazing time during my Senate campaign,” Hora said. “My family was blessed to be able to travel the district together meeting people from all walks of life.”

District 39 is anchored by North Liberty and Washington. It also includes Kalona, Wellman and Lone Tree.

Hora had a strong showing in Republican-leaning Washington and Keokuk counties, but it was not enough to overcome Kinney’s strength in heavily Democratic Johnson County.
