ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Going into their triangular with Washington and Columbus, the Mid-Prairie girls’ golf team did not have their most experienced lineup to lean on.

Led by two-time state champion Sara Nacos, Washington held serve at their home course to come out victorious with a 197. Mid-Prairie came in second with a 228 and Columbus Junction did not have enough competitors to post a team score.

“This was definitely not our best showing of the year, but to the kid’s defense this was the first time pretty much all of them had played the course before, and with kids gone for various other obligations, four of our six are first-year players,” head coach Tracy McArtor said. “So just given the experience level today, the kids did a nice job.”

Paige Slabaugh led the team again with a 47. McArtor liked how Slabaugh competed against the two-time defending state champion in Class 4A in Nacos who was meet medalist with a 40.

After Slabaugh, there was a bit of a gap in the performances. Kenzie Bontrager was second on the team with a 59, Lindsey Palmer followed with a 60. Abbi Patterson and Amerah Rediger rounded out the team scores with a 62 and 66 respectively.
