It was a happy homecoming for the Lone Tree Lions, who rushed for 222 yards in an 81-0 win over English Valleys on Friday night.

“We talked about executing, and I thought we did that really well,” Coach Chad Shield said.

“Our goal is just to get better every week and I thought we did that last week for sure. Homecoming can be a time where distractions happen, but I thought our guys stayed focused and we practiced as well last week as we have all year.”

Senior Logan Carter recovered a fumble for a touchdown and rushed for another one in the blowout win for Lone Tree.

“Logan is really taking advantage of his senior year, and his opportunities,” Shield said, “we really wanted to get him in the endzone on Friday night. He’s been doing a nice job for us in the defensive rotation, and I’m excited for him to be able to have a real good senior year.”

Jovonte Squiers scored the game’s first touchdown on a 37-yard reception from Trey Pierson. Squiers added touchdown rushes of 33, 13, and 24 yards to give the Lions an early 34-0 lead. Sam Fuhrmeister caught a pass and took it in from 13 yards out to put Lone Tree up 40-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Pierson was 5-5 for 88 yards and two touchdowns, and now owns the second-highest passer rating in the state (all classes) among players with more than five pass attempts.

Thirteen Lions carried the ball for 222 yards on Friday, including 255 lb lineman Dawson Swails, who rushed for a five-yard score in the second quarter.

“We wanted to make sure all the seniors got into the endzone this season,” Shield said, “and they were able to do that Friday night.
