Last year, the Lone Tree volleyball saw major improvement, following up an 11-18 year with a 16-10 one, which included a playoff win.

The Lions return a majority of their starters, but will have to replace libero Hailey Comer and Morgyn Edwards. The senior duo earned first and second team Southeast Iowa Super Conference all-conference selections for the north division.

“We have the libero position to fill, if we decide to fill that,” said co-Head Coach Lora Sieverding. “We’re kind of looking at who can do that. The other one would be setter, which Maddie [Forbes] was kind of our backup setter last year, so now she’s going to be stepping into that position full-time.”

Concerning the libero position, co-Head Coach Sondra Prybil stated, “We have a couple of ladies who are working on it and we’ll see if they want to step into that.”

The aforementioned Forbes is part of a senior trio, along with Elena Sieverding and Liz Dodson, which received all-conference recognition. Forbes and Dodson were honorable mentions and Sieverding was named to the second team.

Their varsity experience is something Coach Sieverding says is an advantage they need to press. “Most of these girls have been starting or playing varsity all for years, or at least three years, so they should be seasoned and be able to find some more detail in their games. In other words, we’re looking to attack, attack, attack. We are going to be coming at teams in a consistent form.”

“We’re looking for consistency from our senior class,” added Prybil, who’s hoping to avoid a mid-season “lull.” “We’d like to see it start and keep growing all season. I think our senior class are going to be the ones to spearhead that.”

Elena Sieverding will help set the tone for the team at the net. “We’re going to look to try to get her a lot of balls if we can and she loves to block,” said Coach Sieverding. “I think we’re going to look to her to sort of be the staple of our defense.”.....
