ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Three Mid-Prairie students will compete in the Special Olympics state bowling tournament in Cedar Rapids Saturday.

Erin Harmston, Jonathon Miller and Stephanie Jimenez were honored at the Nov. 12 Mid-Prairie school board meeting for their accomplishment.

The three were among 15 Mid-Prairie students who competed in Special Olympics bowling this year, the first year Mid-Prairie has participated. There were seven students from the middle school and eight students from the high school.

The honors for the three state qualifiers was the highlight of a presentation by Amy Shalla, special education director. Shalla explained to school board members the special education program and its successes.

During the presentation, several parents told the school board about the progress their children have made as part of the program.
