Wellman

The Wellman community was stunned Tuesday morning by the report of an attempt on the life of a local boy, Tom Slockett, now a student at Iowa State University. Tom was found at 9:41 p.m. Monday evening critically wounded with facial and head gun shot wounds just minutes after another youth identified as Dennis Taylen Adams, 23, of rural Humboldt, a graduate student was found dead in his car about a block from where Tom lay wounded. It was believed Adams took his own life with the revolver found in his car.

Apparently Adams became enraged when told of Tom’s approaching marriage to Miss Toni Linder at whose home the shooting occurred.

Tom was taken to an Ames hospital where he was listed in satisfactory condition.
