ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

For the first 2½ hours of the Kalona Car Show Saturday, the weather was beautiful.

Then the skies darkened and rain began to fall. A heavy rain.

Car owners scrambled to cover their vehicles, and the award ceremony was hastily held under umbrellas at the Tuscan Moon.

Prior to the rain, crowds enjoyed looking at the cars that lined the downtown streets. The number of entries was lower this year as the threat of rain seemed to keep many away.

The best-of-show car was a 1968 Dodge Charger owned by Darwin Foster of Riverside.

Second place went to Mel Gregory with a 1966 Ford Fairlane, and the third-place trophy went to Ken Wright with a 1937 Chevy delivery sedan.

Ken Michaels spun tunes for the show and continued the music even after the cars had driven off.

The show was sponsored by the Tuscan Moon and The News.
