Mid-Prairie School District

The Mid-Prairie School Board voted to create two new staff positions within the district at their meeting Monday, Sept. 11.

The first position approved was a half-time Special Education Teacher for Mid-Prairie West. Mid-Prairie Superintendant Mark Schneider said the position had existed in the past, but was needed again.

“Last year we had two special-ed teachers at the middle school, this year we had one leave and one go to the middle school,” he said. “The board didn’t re-hire for the position because we didn’t feel we needed another staff member at the time. Now, because of student needs we need to hire a half-time special-ed teacher for West.”

The board voted unanimously to create the new position and advertise for it. The next new position was for a district-wide communications specialist. Schneider said he didn’t anticipate the position exceeding 15 hours a week.

“We need someone to coordinate social media and that stuff for the district,” he said. “I have no idea if there’s a person interested in the position already, but we can put it out there.”

The Board voted unanimously to create the new position.
