Anyone with a sweet tooth in Wellman has a new place to satisfy that craving.
The 2nd Street Sweets opened for business on Monday morning, June 11.
“They were lined up outside the door when I opened,” owner Marti Seastrom said. “I was amazed.”
Customers can buy a variety of pies and other baked goods. They just won’t see any doughnuts there.
“I don’t have a deep fryer, so I don’t have doughnuts here,” Seastrom said.
Kolaches are another popular item. Seastrom said she can serve them frosted or unfrosted. She also offers lunch plate specials.
However, one item is particularly popular.
“My specialty is cinnamon rolls,” Seastrom said. “I’ve been through nine dozen rolls today. I’ve gone through 100 pounds of flour since I opened (two days prior).”
The volume of business came as a surprised to Seastrom. She said she did not anticipate the shop being this popular.
“I just thought I was going to do this little thing, do things my way, be done and be home,” she said. “I just wanted to keep it small and simple. The walk-in business has just been phenomenal, and I did not expect that.
“I was going to do custom baking. I thought I was going to be in here baking anyway, so I could throw a few extra out and put some chairs in here.”
