Thanksgiving feast with turkey and ham,
potatoes and gravy, dinner rolls and jam.
Stuffed to the gills, its time for a snore,
with tons of delicious leftovers galore.
We all settle in for a long winter’s snooze,
but Christmas is looming we have no time to lose!
Lights must be strung to twinkle and shine
if I can only untangle them without losing my mind.
Throughout the house we place Christmas décor,
nativity on the piano, and bells on the door.
The dog and the cat want to join in the fun
as upstairs and downstairs, quickly we run.
The house is now festive, the lights working fine,
charge up the computer for gift shopping online.
Buy this and buy that, rush here and rush there
who have I forgotten, and do I really care?
A successful hunt brings deer meat to be canned
and a cookie-baking day must yet be planned.
Christmas programs to attend at church and at school
oh, what fun we have in this season of Yule!
Cocoa and caroling throughout the whole town
the month of December is fast counting down.
But wait, have I thought about the birthday that’s coming?
The whole reason for the drums the shepherds are drumming,
for the angelic hosts that sing high in the night sky
and the supernatural star that guides the Magi?
The most wonderful gift the whole world has ever known,
our Savior, our Messiah, as a baby was born!
As Mary and Joseph looked on with adoration,
and the angels did shout with joyful exaltation
that Jesus Christ, our Lord, is the blessed reason
for our celebration of the Christmas season!
So, gather with family and friends in good cheer,
keep in your heart all those you hold dear.
Peace to the world and a new year that is blessed,
Merry Christmas to all, good night, and good rest.
