ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

There will be a special election to fill the seat vacated by board Vice President George Schaefer’s resignation in late June.

A petition triggering the election was submitted to the Mid-Prairie administrative office on Thursday, July 12, the deadline for submitting a petition calling for the election.

Mid-Prairie Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber said that the petition contained 123 signatures of registered district voters. The minimum number was 100.

“I confirmed them with the auditor’s office yesterday afternoon,” Swartzentruber said Friday.

The election will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Polls will be open from noon-8 p.m. that day. The Washington County auditor’s office will announce procedures for absentee ballots in the near future.
