ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

1919 - 2018

Evelyn Mary (Birrer) Knebel, 98, of Riverside, Iowa, died April 16, 2018, at home with her family. Funeral services were held with family and friends at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Thursday, April 19, 2018.

Evelyn was born May 23, 1919, on a ranch near Dillon, Mont. She was a dedicated craftswoman, crocheting until the final days of her life. She farmed with her husband Rochus Knebel north of Riverside on Old 218, later working full time at the Owens Brush (later Oral B) toothbrush factory in Iowa City.

Throughout her life, she took up and mastered hobbies, such that she could train others, in rug weaving, cooking, ceramics, quilting, crocheting, sewing and writing, among other arts. She also loved politics, geography and sports (especially baseball and golf). She continuously planned and made homemade gifts for others (literally distributed worldwide).

She is survived by her loving children: Rosemary (Paul) Galer and Robert (Eddie) Knebel both of rural Riverside; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She leaves behind other beloved relations, friends and neighbors.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years: Rochus Knebel; and children: Phyllis and Richard.

Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
