1930 - 2018

Christian R. “Chriss” Yoder, 88, of Kalona, died suddenly from apparent heart failure in his home on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at the Perry Bender Residence, Kalona, with burial following at the Peter Miller Cemetery.

Christian Ray Yoder was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Edward G. and Anna (Ropp) Yoder. He was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church in his youth and remained a faithful member until his death. He was united in marriage to Eldora S. Mast on Oct. 25, 1951, in Kalona, and they lived in matrimony 67 years. To this union were born four sons and three daughters.

He is survived by wife: Eldora; seven children: Cephas (Emma) Yoder of Kalona, Mahlon (Bertha) Yoder of Kalona, Verna (Perry) Bender of Kalona, Edna (Perry) Miller of Windsor, Mo., Wesley (Verlene) Yoder of Brighton, Samuel (Norma) Yoder of Kalona, and Louise (Tobias) Yoder of Kalona; 56 grandchildren; 143 great-grandchildren; three brothers: J. Edward (Treva) Yoder of Goshen, Ind., Alton (Susie) Yoder of Crofton, Ky., and Marvin (Elizabeth) Yoder of Crofton, Ky.; two brothers-in-law: Eddie J. Miller of Kalona and Herman E. Miller of Guthrie, Ky.

Preceding Chriss in death were his parents; three brothers: Sylvanus, Thomas and Lewis; four sisters: Viola, Edna, Dorothy, and Lydia Anna; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home assisted the family.
