ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

David L. Slabach passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at his home in Kalona at the age of 68 years. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona with a time of sharing starting at 3 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Public Library.

David Lee Slabach was born Nov. 28, 1949, in Kokomo, Ind., the son of Edwin and Nona (Miller) Slabach. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite High School in 1968. On June 12, 1971, David was united in marriage to Bev White at the Methodist Church in Coralville.

They have lived in the Kalona community for many years where David worked for Slabach Construction, KLK Construction and Kalonial Transport. David loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing Scrabble and the card game Panic. He also enjoyed reading, bowling, attending tractor pulls and automobile racing.

David is survived by his loving wife Bev; two children: Jennifer (Adam) Bearisto of Winter Springs, Fla. and Amy (Jordan) Boock of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren: Caleb, Cole and Cameron Bearisto; two brothers: Herman Slabach of Kalona and Freeman Slabach of Sarasota, Fla.; and three sisters: Elsie Lewis of Jacksonville, Fla., Norma Slabach of Sarasota, Fla. and Kathy (Dave) Bender of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister-in-law: Karen Slabach of Great Falls, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Lloyd; and a sister-in-law: Sonya Slabach.
