ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Niko Gosnell broke his own school high jump record for the third time this season, this time with a jump of 6-feet 6-inches at the Denny White Relays in Mount Pleasant.

Lone Tree finished eighth out of the 20 teams present with 76 points. The host Panthers finished first with 210 points.

Last year, Gosnell jumped 6-02 in the first outdoor meet of the season and didn’t eclipse that mark until the state meet. This season, Gosnell started at 6-04 in the Lions’ first meet and hasn’t dipped below that mark in five consecutive meets.

Casey Shalla also gave the Lions points in the field events, finishing second in the shot put and third in the discus. Drake Hotz finished third in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.74, a new personal best and the 27th fastest time in class 1A this year. Brock Smith also ran a season-low 2:09.83 for a third place finish in the 800-meter run.
