ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Riverside

They may have had to wait an extra 15 minutes, but it sure didn’t dampen the excitement of the kids who gathered at the Riverside Fire Department Dec. 9 for a meet-and-greet with the North Pole’s most popular resident.

Santa’s arrival, heralded by the by the sirens of one of the department’s engines, saw families flock to the garage of the station house and watch as the big man waved and greeted all who had been waiting so eagerly to see him.

Prior to his arrival, kids clambered about in the fire trucks left in the station, while others harbored hopes that they may have their own vehicles to ride around in come Christmas morning. Corbin, Vazquez (4) wanted his own four-wheeler, like the one he rode with his father. Like Santa’s sleigh, or the fire truck that brought Santa to visit the children of Riverside, Vazquez wanted his transport to be red.

Something red was also on the Christmas list of 3-year old Eli Gilles. Gilles was hopeful for a combine, and not just a lousy imitation, but the real deal. Asked whether the thought the genuine thing might be too big for him, Gilles stated he was sure he could handle it.

Others, like sisters Payton and Mackenzie Goff, feigned a nonchalant attitude leading up to Santa’s arrival. The pair failed to contain their nervous energy as they fidgeted on the floor enjoying complimentary cookies and orange juice.

The pair claimed not to be excited for his arrival, though grinning slyly while doing so, and claimed that they did not yet know what they wanted in their stockings and under their tree. However, their actions betrayed their words, as they were second in line to visit with the VIP and were more than happy to whisper what they hoped for in his ear.
