The city of Wellman is looking to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to help fund a pair of projects.

On Monday, the city council passed a pair of resolutions giving the city the go-ahead to apply for the grants from the WCRF.

One request is for $2,000 to help fund a 9-hole disc golf course at North Park.

There had been talk of the Chamber of Commerce seeking the grant and running the golf course, but City Administrator Kelly Litwiller said that the chamber did not have all the necessary information ready in time for the application deadline.

“We’re going to run it through the city and see what happens,” she said.

The remainder of the funding for the disc golf course will come through sponsorships of each hole.

According to the resolution, $3,000 in additional funding is already in place.

The other project is to install upgraded LED lighting at the senior dining location.

The city is seeking $2,000 for the lighting project and will put in an additional $1,000 from its capital fund.

Litwiller said she did not know how having two applications from the city would affect the chances of being awarded the grants.

Wednesday is the application deadline for the WCRF mini grants.
