July 30

Caller reports a three vehicle accident in Kalona. All vehicle are off the roadway.

Report of a male subject going door to door in Kalona soliciting. He stated he works for dish network. Responded and checked the area. Unable to locate. The caller was advised to call back if the subject returns.

July 31

Report of big round bales on fire and then a structure fire involving an old barn at Juniper and 135th Street, Kalona. Kalona Fire responded and requested mutual aid. Keota Fire, Kalona QRS, Wellman Fire, Riverside Fire and Washington Fire all responded to assist.

Caller reports two-vehicle accident north of Kalona on Highway 1. Partially still in the roadway, she was trying to make a u-turn. No injuries. Rosalyn Schrock of Kalona versus Daniel W. Miller of Kalona. State accident report to be filed. Schrock cited for failure to yield entering a through highway. One subject had minor injuries and will be going to the U of I by private vehicle. Both vehicles were towed by Earl’s.

Caller reports possible animal neglect in the 200 block of A Avenue, Kalona. Spoke with the caller.

Officer reports checking on a subject for Keokuk County in reference an assault that occurred earlier in Keota. Arrested Jeffrey Jay Smith, 51, of Wellman for simple assault.

August 1

Caller reports a male behind Bulltown Plaza who is in a sleeping bag. Responded. Subject was given a ride to the Keokuk County line. He is trying to make it to Des Moines.

Caller in the 800 block of Fourth Street, Kalona, reports a subject opened a Lowe’s card and attempted to open a Starbucks reward card with his private information. Spoke with the caller. He was advised to contact his bank and the social security administration. He was able to cancel both of the accounts without any loss of funds.

There is a subject at Lot 16 causing problems with her mother. She is also not supposed to be there. Arrested Cynthia Ann Wooldridge, 41, Kalona for trespass.

Caller reports a male near Kalona Napa, has been asleep in the vehicle since noon and not moved. Checked on the subject, no problem, subject was sleeping.

Caller in the 1700 block of Black Diamond Rd SW reports a strange smell in the house. All subjects are outside. Kalona Fire and Kalona QRS responded and assisted Johnson County.

August 2

Caller in Kalona reporting an issue at the trailer park. Siblings were upset they had to babysit their younger brother while mom was at work and dad was not around.

Caller requests a welfare check on a subject who lives in Wellman. She hasn’t been able to contact him since Sunday. Responded and was advised to disregard. She called back and advised she made contact and he was fine.

Caller in the 1000 block of Fifth Street, Wellman, is being harassed by a subject from Washington. Spoke with both parties. She was advised not to have any further contact with the caller and stated she understood.

Second Street and 10th Avenue, Wellman, reports his neighbor is doing burnouts on his motorcycle. Officer checked the area and the neighbor was quiet upon his arrival.
