ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, a congresswoman from Hawaii, brought her Coffee and Toffee tour to Café Dodici in Washington on Oct. 8.

Speaking to about 30 supporters, Gabbard said that the toffee, made by her mother, was what helped build relationships with other members of Congress after she was first elected in 2012.

During a brief speech, Gabbard, who is also a military combat veteran, spoke about what she sees as one of the biggest global threats.

“There is an existential threat that we face as a country, and that is the threat of nuclear catastrophe,” she said. “No one is really talking about the fact that we have entered a new cold war. We’re seeing tensions ever escalating.”

During a question and answer session, Gabbard covered her view that the United States should not be acting as the “world’s police.”

On tensions between Hong Kong and China, she said, “This is something the United States should not be coming in as a third party trying to dictate externally against something that’s had a long-standing history in relationships.”
