ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie boys golf team hit the links at the Wahkonsa County Club in Durant for the team’s first 18-hole invitational of the season. The Golden Hawks finished sixth out of 11 teams with a total of 368 strokes. Mid-Prairie finished just five strokes behind fourth-place Winfield-Mount Union and tied West Branch, losing on the tiebreaker.

Durant finshed first with a score of 341, led by co-runner-up Leo Callison who shot an 81. Wilton finished second with a score of 346. Jake Fratzke had the low score for the Beavers with 81 as well. Kaleb Hagge of Winfield-Mount Union was the medalist, finishing with 73 strokes.

Duncan McCain led Mid-Prairie with rounds of 42 and 45. He tied for 10th place out of the 63 golfers, just one stroke out of fourth place individually.

Collin Gingerich was also consistent with nine hole scores of 45 and 46 for a total of 91. Gingerich had a birdie on the par-four 18th hole.

Noah Schlabaugh had three pars on the way to a score of 92. He was also steady with nine-hole totals of 47 and 45.

Mid-Prairie edged by Wilton

Against a team touted by Mid-Prairie head coach Kelby Bender as the “conference favorite,” the Mid-Prairie boys’ golf team hung tough on the road versus Wilton April 24.

The Golden Hawks dropped the meet by just two strokes on the Beavers’ home course behind a very strong team performance.

Michael Callahan led the way for Mid-Prairie with a season-best 42, one shot off the meet runner-up score. Callahan put in what Bender described as a “steady round,” carding four pars.

Duncan McCain and Noah Schlabaugh shot identical scores of 43, both aided by birdies on the par four ninth. The team score was completed by sophomore Ryan Smit with a career low 45.
