ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The 33rd annual Mellecker-Birrer reunion was held at St. Mary’s Church basement in Riverside, on Aug. 26, 2018. Forty-four descendants attended the noon potluck. Marcia Mellecker led the grace before the bountiful meal. Afterward there was a moment of silence for four descendants who had deceased since the reunion in 2017. Several members were recognized and applauded for birthdays or anniversaries.

Notes were read and photos viewed, which were received from several of Eymard Mellecker’s children who regretted not being able to attend.

Mary Ann Kral was recognized for her time and effort to obtain more than $400 from the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt under Albert Mellecker’s name. The money was presented to St. Stanislaus, for upkeep and care of its cemetery.

All attending were given the opportunity to share, show or tell.

John and Marlene Mellecker won the first door prize, a squirrel feeder made by Dennis Mellecker of Ashland, Ore., Fourteen other door prizes of produce were awarded.

Attendees who traveled the farthest were Darel and Joan Saindon of Lakewood, Colo. The oldest attendee was Bernard Mellecker. The youngest attendee was Emmy Schultz.
