In first round action of the SEISC tournament, Iowa Mennonite hosted Highland, posting an 8-0 victory.

Iowa Mennonite opened the scoring with a goal from Jacob Boller on an assist from Cole Ours. Gedeon Sangore got his first goal of the season on an assist from Gerardo Mendoza. Mendoza moved the score to 3-0 on a penalty kick to end the scoring in the first half.

In the second half, Iowa Mennonite added two goals from Cole Ours on assists from Isaiah Swantz. Louis Etienne scored on an assist from Mendoza. Drew Blauvelt scored on an assist from John Hughes. Tyler Swantz finished the scoring for the night and the 8-0 final.

Saturday morning Iowa Mennonite traveled to Columbus to play Central Lee. Playing on a wet and slick field Iowa Mennonite broke through the Central Lee defense scoring twice in a three-minute time period on goals from Jacob Boller on an assist from Cody Jones. Next Louis Etienne scored on an assist from Cole Ours.

From this point on, the weather became the big story as the rains came down. Soon after the second half started, a lightning flash forced the officials to delay the game. After 40-plus minutes it was determined the standing water on the fields was too deep, making play dangerous. The game ended 2-0.

At this point the officials, coaches and athletic directors talked by phone trying to figure out what to do as the Columbus fields were unplayable. The decision was made to move the rest of the tournament to Mediapolis, which has a turf field.

A wet, soggy and cold team boarded the bus for the drive to Mediapolis. After the second semi-final game, Iowa Mennonite faced No. 2 seed Burlington-Notre Dame in the championship game. With a brisk swirling wind at their back, Notre Dame scored twice in the first half.

In the second half, Notre Dame added a third goal before Iowa Mennonite battled back getting a goal from Drew Blauvelt after a scrum in front of the goal.

Iowa Mennonite moves to 13-1 on the season. Iowa Mennonite travels to Washington, Monday with a varsity start time at 4:30 p.m. Iowa Mennonite finishes its regular season schedule hosting Mount Vernon, Thursday. The Iowa Mennonite seniors and their parents will be recognized after the varsity game.
