ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Dominic McCain, Ben Meader and Brodey Neal took first place in their brackets at Solon’s junior varsity invite on Monday night.

The three junior varsity wrestlers won all three of their matches against wrestlers from all three classes of schools.

Neal pinned all three of his opponents on the day and didn’t reach a third period during the tournament.

Ben Meader scored a first-period pin in his first match, but then had to gut out two decisions to take his bracket. He took a 9-1 major decision in the second round and won a 6-1 decision in what was the de facto final in the four man round-robin bracket.

Dominic McCain pinned his first two opponents, both in the second period. He then won a 5-1 decision over Muscatine’s Dillinger Thomas to take first place.

Spencer Grout was second place in his bracket and was quickly on and off the mat. He won his two pins in just 1:50 of mat time and was pinned in his lone loss in 1:14. Grout had the fastest pin of any Mid-Prairie wrestler when he pinned Grant Ernst from Iowa City High in 41 seconds.

Stone Peck was third place in his bracket, winning one match by first-period pin.

Beau Stutzman placed second, winning two matches and losing one.

This was the final junior varsity tournament listed on the schedule for Mid-Prairie.
