During the September 18 city council meeting, the Wellman City Council approved a couple of steps to improve the utility vehicle situation for public employees.

Public Works employee Teresa Lampe had been using her own personal gator vehicle to assist with her city work. The use of the gator vehicle allowed her to be more efficient in her work downtown than the city’s golf carts

Lampe’s gator needed repair work after being used largely for city work. The bill came in at $1,821.93, and though she hadn’t come to the council asking to be reimbursed for the cost, some on the council questioned since she was using the vehicle so much for city work whether they had an obligation to reimburse her.

Council member Fern Bontrager came out to praise her selflessness in being willing to use her own equipment, while also acknowledging the issue it highlighted in the vehicles the city owned.
