ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Iowa Mennonite returned to the friendly confines of Hillcrest Union Friday, and pulled away in the second half for the 66-38 win over Louisa-Muscatine.

All but one in uniform got into the scoring column for Iowa Mennonite, as Eli Ours led the way with 19 points and Trevor Leyden followed with 14. Jeremy Niemeyer was also in double figures with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Iowa Mennonite jumped out to a 16-4 lead after five minutes and led 20-11 after one quarter. The hosts outscored the Falcons 14-12 to lead 34-23 at the half, and then got separation with a 20-8 third quarter to lead 54-31 and pull away for the win.

Cody Jones tallied six points with four assists and three steals, and Blake Bontrager and Noah Miller scored four points apiece. Kobe Borntrager added three points, and Louis Etienne, Drew Blauvelt and Aaron Hershberger had two points apiece to complete the scoring. Ours and Leyden each had three assists and Etienne had three steals. Ours had five rebounds and Leyden had four.

“This was a solid bounce back effort after a tough night at Lone Tree Tuesday,” coach Dwight Gingerich said, “The ball moved well as we had 19 team assists, and defensively we took away the drive the second half and they did not shoot the ball well, which helped us out.”

Iowa Mennonite was without the services of Caleb Gingerich, out with illness.

Iowa Mennonite goes to 8-3 overall, 7-3 in conference play, and next plays Tuesday at Mediapolis. Mediapolis defeated Iowa Mennonite the first time through conference play by the score of 66-48.
