The Lone Tree City Council had some advice for Mayor Jonathan Green: Your actions reflect on the city, and those actions are making the city look bad.

“As the mayor, you are representing the town of Lone Tree,” said Councilwoman Ruby Dickey, who led the discussion at the City Council meeting Monday.

Dickey asked for the discussion after receiving a complaint letter from a resident who said the mayor had parked his motorcycle across the makeshift path from Lone Tree’s northern housing development to downtown. That prevented the path from being used by golf carts.

“This is a thorny issue,” Green said, adding that there are no easy answers. “This is going to continue to be an issue.”

The path has been a topic at several City Council meetings, but the council elected to not get involved because the path crosses private property, making it a civil matter.

Green said he had been trying to mediate the dispute.

Dickey said the mayor should not have gotten involved.

“Really, Jon, you put the city in a very liable situation here,” she said. “As a mayor, you put the city at risk.”

Councilman Tyler Baird told Green he should have contacted the sheriff rather than taking action on his own.

Green told the council: “I think I make the best decisions I can with the information I have.”
