ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Pleasantview Home has plans for a new assisted living facility and memory care unit.

Pleasantview officials announced the start of a public fundraising campaign for the project during the facility’s Benefit Sale at Iowa Mennonite School on Friday night.

“As some of you are aware, we have been developing a project that allows us to better serve the health care and retirement needs of the people living in Kalona and surrounding communities,” Pleasantview Executive Administrator Nick Jedlicka said. “What Pleasantview’s plan entails meets two very important needs.”

The first, he said, is the renovation of the original three-story Pleasantview building, originally constructed in 1958.

“The renovation will result in a new Pleasantview assisted living facility,” Jedlicka said. “This will allow people who may need just a little bit of help to thrive for a longer period of time in a setting that is more home-like.”

The second is the addition of a new memory care wing.

“This will mean that Pleasantview will have a contemporary setting to better serve those who may be afflicted with Alzheimer’s or other form of dementia,” Jedlicka said.

Pleasantview Board Chairman Michael Loss said that the project has been in the works for about four years and that each board member has pledged financial support for the project.

“The entire board of directors is excited about this project and how well it enhances our ability to provide care for the residents we have at Pleasantview,” Loss said.
