August 13

Caller reports a white SUV passed him in a no passing zone. Vehicle turned into EPC. Officer located the vehicle and spoke to the registered owner. Her sister was driving, she was the passenger and said they left in plenty of time this morning to get to work and did not pass any vehicles.

Caller in the 1000 block of Kiwi Avenue, Kalona, reports identity theft. Someone used the caller’s information to rent an apartment in another state.

Caller on East Railroad Street, Riverside, reports receiving possible counterfeit bills. Responded. Money was seized and will be placed into evidence.

Caller reports multiple 911 hand ups from the area of a business in Kalona. Checked the area around the business and was unable to locate.

August 14

Caller in the 300 block of D Avenue, Kalona, reports a violation of a no contact order. Contact was made through their realtor. Spoke with the caller who was advised to obtain a copy of the CFS for documentation purposes.

August 15

Caller in the 500 block of A Avenue, Kalona, reports that he was scammed out of $450 by a subject who said he was giving him a payday loan over the phone. Spoke with the caller. His bank closed his account and he was given the number for the Federal Trade Commission.

Caller reports a suspicious subject in a truck with Oregon plates at the Tri County Bridge, Riverside. Request a deputy. Spoke with the subject who was fishing. He is originally from here and is back visiting. No problem.

Caller in the 1300 block of Nutmeg Avenue, Kalona, reports the neighbor’s dogs are trying to get at his chickens. Spoke with the caller. Attempted to make contact with the dog owner. He will check back at the residence again tonight.

Request a civil standby in the 300 block of Fifth Street, Wellman.

Caller reports a vehicle on the south side of Highway 218 and a male subject walking from the vehicle.

Deputy reports checking on a subject wanted out of Washington County. Arrested Mitchell Douglas Barthelman, 27, of Kalona for parks and public lands, littering. Bond $300.

Officer with a truck and trailer on Highway 22, Riverside. Truck loaded with livestock and has a blown tire. They have another truck coming to assist them.

Caller in the 200 block of A Avenue, Kalona, reports a neglected cat. Paws and More has been contacted and will pick up the cat in the morning.

Arrested Brian Keith Riggan, 51, of Kalona. Warrant for failure to appear for child support hearing. Bond, $1,000, cash only.

August 16

Caller in the 900 block of First Avenue, Wellman, reports a suspicious vehicle going slow and had no headlights on.

Report of a hang up 9-1-1 call in the 600 block of Fourth Street, Wellman. Verbal altercation between two subjects who did end up leaving the residence together.

Caller in the 200 block of A Avenue, Kalona, reports items taken from her residence last night. Small cooler with movies and a flag. Does have a suspect. Responded. Other subject denied taking the items and allowed deputy to search her property. Unable to locate. Documentation.

Caller reports a motorcycle accident with injuries at E Avenue and Sixth Street, Kalona. Kalona Fire and Kalona QRS all responded. Transported one patient to the hospital. Operator Sheldon Yoder of Kalona. State accident report filed and no citations.

Caller in the 1000 block of Eighth Street, Wellman, cancelled her senior meal and says she is shaking and not feeling well. Requests a welfare check. Wellman QRS responded. The subject did not need medical attention.

Caller reports vehicle passed on the shoulder of highway 22 near the casino causing rocks to hit their windshield. The caller would like the driver counseled. Responded and counseled the driver.

Caller in Wellman reports someone is using fireworks to the west of the residence. Responded. Spoke to subjects at 407 and 405 Third Street. They were given a verbal warning and the remainder of the fireworks were disposed of.

August 17

Caller in Riverside reports barking dogs in the area. Responded. Spoke with a resident about their dogs barking. There should be no more problems with the dogs barking.

August 18

Caller in the 300 block of Third Street, Kalona, reports his bike was taken and another one left in its place. Caller called back in to disregard the officer, no theft occurred.

Caller reports children left unattended in a vehicle in the JWs parking lot. Responded to the vehicle owners residence. They were advised of the complaint.

Hang up 9-1-1 call in Riverside. Checked the area. Unable to locate.

Dispatch received a smoke alarm for the Mid-Prairie High School. Wellman Fire responded. No fire was located and a keyholder reset the alarm.

August 19

Caller in the 1100 block of Enterprise Drive, Riverside, reports a customer left a knife in the restroom. Responded and disposed of the item.

Caller reports an elderly male in a truck parked on Highway 22 under the 218 underpass that appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. Checked the area and was unable to locate the truck.

Two vehicle accident in the 3000 block of Highway 22, Riverside. No injuries. Jessica Anne Forbes of Conesville versus Leah Mercedes Eganhouse of Lone Tree. State accident report to be filed. No citations issued.

Caller in the 100 block of South Sixth Street, Kalona, reports he has not seen his daughter for three days. She is with her 18-year-old boyfriend on a vacation and wants to report her missing. Deputy spoke with the caller. He does not want her entered as missing. Advice was given by the deputy.

Caller in Wellman requests a welfare check on the neighbor. Everything was fine.
