CEDAR RAPIDS - Allyson Wertz went from a great fall season for the Golden Hawks to a solid spring for the Mount Mercy Mustangs.

“It was a great first season as Women’s Coach for myself and the ladies did excellent as well,” said coach Luke Slaymaker.

“Ally is a fantastic young lady with great work ethic and study skills. While excelling in the classroom Ally has found time to work hard on her golf game as well as volunteer.”

Wertz finished the year with an 89.1 scoring average, ranking third on the team.

Wertz finished fourth out of 63 individuals in the Sail Classic at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls on Sept. 2. The freshman posted rounds of 81 and 82 on the par 72, 5,909 yard course, leading Mt Mercy to a fourth place finish out of 10 teams.

“With a few minor tweaks over the winter it is my belief that we can have her consistently shooting in the upper 70’s and low 80’s come spring,” said Slaymaker. “The potential of this young lady has me excited to see what college golf has in store for her over the next three and a half years.”

CEDAR RAPIDS - Wyatt Cady is a junior midfielder for the Mount Mercy Mustangs, who got off to an 8-3-1 start this year before losing five in a row. The former Golden Hawk is a business major at the Cedar Rapids University.

“Wyatt is a delightful young man who is doing very well both in the classroom and the athletic field,” said Mount Mercy head coach Amir Hadzic, who is in his 22nd season coaching the mens’ soccer program.

Cady was a team captain and the best player on the junior varsity team according to the head coach. Cady scored three goals and had four assists for the junior varsity and saw some playing time for the varsity team as well.

“We expect Wyatt to be only in the varsity team his senior year next season,” said Hadzic.

The Mount Mercy roster features 27 international players from 16 different countries.
