The Mid-Prairie softball team faced some tough competition at this weekend’s Iowa City West tournament in Iowa City and came away with two losses.
Their first game Saturday morning was a 5-1 loss to Class 5A Davenport West. The Golden Hawks held the Falcons scoreless through the first two, but they eventually put the first two runs of the game on the board in the third inning.
Mid-Prairie couldn’t answer, leaving the bases loaded and coming away without scoring. The Falcons added one more run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Mid-Prairie scored their lone run in the five-inning game when a Kylee Kos single brought in Rylee Vercande to score.
Later that day they faced off against another Mississippi Athletic Conference team in North Scott. The Lancers defeated Mid-Prairie 8-2.
The Golden Hawks connected with the ball well, tallying six hits on the day but only scoring two runs. Cassidy Rourke started on the mound again for the second game of the day, going three innings and allowing six hits. Abbi Patterson came on for the final two innings of the day and gave up three hits, one run and struck out one.
Golden Hawks beat Knights
Mid-Prairie got their first win of the season in a 9-5 win over River Valley Conference opponent North Cedar. The Golden Hawks got a stellar performance from Jaselyn Robertson, who was a perfect 3-3 on the day and drove in one run.
Cassidy Rourke, Abbi Patterson and Rylee Vercande added some offense and had two RBIs each. Rourke was the winning pitcher, going seven innings allowing six hits and striking out six.
The Golden Hawks scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth inning of the game after trailing 1-0 after three innings.

Monticello wins on late rally
A three-run sixth inning rally allowed Monticello to pull ahead by one run and win the game by a score of 4-3.
The Golden Hawks outhit Monticello 6-4, but couldn’t generate enough runs late in the game to come back. Errors hurt the Golden Hawks in that aspect, with all four of Monticello’s runs counting as unearned for pitcher Cassidy Rourke.

Golden Hawks face hot bats
Keokuk compiled 19 hits on the way to a 15-4 win in five innings over the Golden Hawks.
Mid-Prairie batters struck out nine times and had four hits on the day. Cassidy Rourke started on the mound for Mid-Prairie, going two innings and allowing seven hits and striking out one. Myah Lugar pitched three innings for the Golden Hawks, allowing eight hits.
