I support Pat Heiden for Johnson County supervisor.

Pat’s leadership, inclusive approach, and integrity make her an outstanding choice for Johnson County supervisor. As a supervisor, Pat will have to balance differing constituencies and interests. Nowhere is that more significant than the oversight of land use in the county.

Agriculture is the dominant economic driver in Iowa, but current practices and policies have had many unintended consequences, including poor water quality, damaged environment and threats to farm viability. To better address these issues and impacts Pat has actively been meeting with a wide variety of county residents including small local food producers, livestock operations, and traditional corn and soybean growers.

As a farm kid, Pat knows that Iowans’ relationship with the land is deep and enduring, and that we need an agricultural future that is diversified, sustainable and profitable for the farmer. Her approach is to build collaborative relationships, and reach out widely to stakeholders in order to find new ways of facing these collective challenges.

For these and other reasons Pat will be an excellent Johnson County supervisor. Please join me in voting for her in the Democratic primary on June 5.
