ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Three Mid-Prairie students each placed second in their respective divisions in the Special Olympics State Bowling Tournament on Nov. 17 in Cedar Rapids.

The students placing in the tournament were high school junior Erin Harmston and middle school students Jonathan Miller and Stephanie Jimenez.

“They did great,” special education teacher and bowling coach Traci Zahradnek said.

She added that the students had a lot of support at the tournament.

“We had so many people come up to support the kids, family and teachers,” Zahradnek said. “We had some students from the high school come up to watch. They made signs and cheered the kids on. That was probably the best part, just watching everybody cheer each other on.”

Prior to the tournament, the student bowlers practiced at Lebowski’s Rock and Bowl in Washington.

“They allowed us to come and practice once a week for the first eight weeks of school free of charge,” Zahradnek said. “That was an amazing donation.”
