ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-Prairie Community School Board approved retaining Nathan Carlson as a half-time high school dean of students during its Monday meeting. Carlson had been shared with the Keota Community School District where he was also the high school principal. The Keota school district did not renew Carlson’s contract and combined the superintendent and high school principal positions.

Mid-Prairie Superintendent advised that the contract renewal gave the school district time to reevaluate the position for a year. The contract will cost the school the same as when it was sharing Carlson with Keota, plus a 4 percent increase – $49,263.

The board also approved a 50/50 cost share agreement with the Williamsburg Community School District for a special education transitional instructor with each paying $38,155. Williamsburg will be the employing agent.

Performance Therapies in Kalona was contracted to provide a strength and conditioning coordinator to the school district related to school athletics, including a comprehensive functional test of all athletes, providing a summer strength and agility camp for all sports programs and for on-site services in the weight room.
