Just over one minute into the substate final between Iowa Mennonite and Solon, Jacob Boller beat a Solon defender going left, shot the ball right and put Iowa Mennonite up 1-0.

The tone was set from that point and a determined Class 1A No. 2 Iowa Mennonite squad defeated Class 1A No. 3 Solon to advance to the state tournament next week.

Iowa Mennonite scored once more in the second half, with Louis Etienne putting a deflection from an Isaiah Swantz shot into the net to go up 2-0.

The third goal crushed any chance of a Solon desperation comeback as a beautiful cross from Cole Ours found Cody Jones' foot for the third goal with less than 10 minutes to go.

Solon's offense couldn't seem to get things going on the day, as the Iowa Mennonite defensive line was beating the Spartans to the ball, especially on balls played into the air.

On a few key free kicks for Solon, Iowa Mennonite Blake Bontrager kept the ball in front of him for the save.

With the win, Iowa Mennonite advances to the state tournament next week. Pairings are expected to be released sometime tonight. The other state qualifiers in Class 1A are Assumption, Des Moines Christian, Gilbert, Iowa Mennonite, Nevada, Iowa City Regina, Treynor and Williamsburg. Iowa Mennonite has defeated Regina and Williamsburg so far this season, with no other games against qualifiers.
