ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

There will be plenty of traditional activities at this year’s Christmas In Kalona along with some new traditions.

The ice skating rink is coming back for a second year but will be located on Fifth Street in front of the former Family Restaurant.

Those skating or watching skaters will enjoy hot cider, cocoa and coffee in commemorative Christmas in Kalona mugs while listening to Christmas carols sung by area groups.

Wooden Wheel Vineyards will offer wine sampling, including mulled wine.

“That will be new and amazing for downtown,” said Chamber board member Katie Miller, who worked on the committee organizing the annual event.

The Christmas in Kalona celebration will be Saturday, Dec 1. It is sponsored by the Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce.

Activities will include a holiday open house and homemade show at the Kalona Historical Village from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

And the vendor market will return to the community center in a new location – on the indoor track on the second floor of the gym.

The community center will be the site for the new ugly sweater contest at 3 p.m. Awards will be given for the ugliest sweaters in three categories – men’s, women’s and youth.
