ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Iowa Mennonite jumped to an early 1-0 lead as Cole Ours sent a ball to Jacob Boller, who hit the ball by the goalie just two minutes into the game. Three minutes later Cody Jones sent a corner kick to the far post where a Danville defender knocked the ball into his own net before Mitchell Schmieder could get to it and a 2-0 Iowa Mennonite lead.

Iowa Mennonite continued to apply pressure, but it was a night when shots seemed destined to hit the crossbar or the posts as numerous shots ricocheted off the framework and the half ended with the score 2-0.

In the second half Danville proved it would not roll over as they were awarded a direct kick from about 25 yards out. Blake Bontrager blocked the shot but Danville beat Iowa Mennonite to the rebound and it was redirected into the goal to make the score 2-1.

It didn’t take long to respond as a minute later Boller sent a crossing ball into to Gerardo Mendoza who fired a the ball into the net for the 3-1 lead with 32 minutes left on the clock. With the wind at their backs, Iowa Mennonite continued to generate numerous opportunities but first half patterns continued as shots rained off the goals.

With the win Iowa Mennonite moves to 9-0 overall and 8-0 in conference, finishing as the regular season conference champions. Iowa Mennonite returns to action Thursday, hosting #1 ranked Iowa City Regina.
