ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

OSKALOOSA - The William Penn Volleyball team has struggled to a 6-26 record this season, but sophomore Ashley Miller has been a bright spot for the team with her defensive play. The former Golden Hawk volleyball player is ranked 17th in NAIA division 1 in digs so far this season. She also is third on the team with 67 assists.

"Ashley has been the backbone to our defense this season, she has 659 digs on the season and is one of the top three liberos in our conference," head coach Jennifer Carlson said. "She is a leader by example for this team, she makes great plays to give us more chances to score. She is a hardworking athlete that I am very grateful I have on my team."

Despite the tough season, Miller is having a good year in Oskaloosa.

“This season has had its ups and downs but I’ve really enjoyed this season with getting to know all the new players we have this year,” Miller said.

Last year as a defensive specialist, Miller had 177 digs and 12 assists as the Statesmen finished 6-23.

“I’ve gotten a lot more court time this year, so it’s amazing to see how far I’ve grown from last year to this year,” Miller added.

“I love William Penn and all the relationships that I have made throughout the time I’ve been here. It’s a small campus but that’s what I love and you get to know people a lot easier that way!”
