Iowa Mennonite added one more win to their total, going 1-2 during a busy week.

Their two losses came against two of the top teams in the SEISC North, Pekin and Mediapolis.

On Tuesday they hosted Mediapolis, dropping the game 62-37. Mediapolis hounded Iowa Mennonite in the first quarter and jumped out to a 27-5 lead. The Bullettes finished the night with 15 steals off of Iowa Mennonite.

Maya Johnson had 24 points to lead all scorers while Suzanna Yoder added 23 for Iowa Mennonite.

Mediapolis increased their lead in the second quarter to take a 44-13 lead into halftime. Iowa Mennonite battled back to outscore Mediapolis 15-5 in the fourth quarter and finish the night with 37 points.

On Friday night against Pekin, Iowa Mennonite was just 9-37 from the field and 2-14 from three as a tight Pekin defense forced tough shots.

Another tough first quarter for Iowa Mennonite gave an opponent a big lead. After one quarter Pekin led Iowa Mennonite 18-4.

Suzanna Yoder had 16 points, Yani Gutierrez had six, Mia Graber had two points and Sarena Gerber scored her first career points with two.

After taking the tough loss on Friday, Iowa Mennonite came out blazing on Saturday, defeating English Valleys in non-conference play. The game got out to an 18-18 tie after one quarter, but Iowa Mennonite outscored the Bears in the second quarter to take a three-point lead into halftime.

Iowa Mennonite built their lead up three more points in the third quarter and kept pace 13-13 in the fourth quarter to win on the road.

Suzanna Yoder broke the school record with 40 points, Mia Graber added eight points, Yani Gutierrez had four and Esther Hughes had two points.

Gutierrez grabbed nine rebounds, Graber had seven and Rubye Ney had five rebounds.

Now through one-third of the season, Iowa Mennonite coach Kari Heusinkveld said the team has shown year-over-year improvement. Iowa Mennonite has notched three wins so far this year, matching their regular season total from last season already.
